The building that is now home to the Scioto Inn was originally constructed in 1885 as the residence and medical clinic of Dr. Harry Butcher, a pioneering physician in Urbana. Within a short time, Dr. Butcher expanded the property into a 13-room clinic that became a landmark in the community. After his era, the structure evolved into upscale apartments, known as one of Urbana’s most prestigious addresses for much of the 20th century. By 2010, the building underwent a complete renovation, carefully restoring its historic elegance while introducing modern comforts and sustainable upgrades.
